Helping rail operators get to know their passengers

‘Know your audience’ is the first rule of communications. The reason being that people will (are more likely to) listen and act to messages that

  1. they understand, and
  2. are relevant.

Esoterix has been awarded funding as part of the latest round of TRIG (Transport Research and Innovation Grants) to improve the Rail Passenger’s experience by helping Train Operating Companies be more relevant through targeting their communications.

In Personalisation in Rail, we will examine the travel behaviour of at least 5,000 passengers over the course of the last year. We’ll look at when, where, and how regularly they travelled. And we’ll apply machine learning to this granular view to reveal patterns that tell us more about who they are.

The project’s aim is to enable transport operators to identify which customers fit which passenger types (and they may fit more than one type), so that they can promote relevant leisure offers.
